Summary:
Darrell Desuze, 17-year-old boy, has been detained for eight years for the killing of Mr Richard Mannington Bowes. Mr Bowes was a 68-year-old pensioner.
Darrell took part in the London riots on August 8th. He was seen on CCTV smashing windows, looting shops, throwing missiles at police and wheeling rubbish bins into the street so they could be set on fire.
During these riots most people were afraid to go out but not Mr Bowes. He was out amongst the rioters preventing fires to spread. When Mr Bowes was trying to stamp out a fire he was punched by Darrell. That punch made him fell on the pavement hitting his head. Mr Bowes suffered brain damage and died.
Fact: Desuze's mother Lavinia Desuze, 31, was jailed for 18 months at the same court for perverting the course of justice.
My opinion:
The boy was 16-years-old when he took part in the riots. Where were his parents?! He is now 17 and his chances of a good future are gone. His mother also got jailed because she destroyed the clothes Darrell was wearing that night. I understand that a mother protects their child that is instinct but when your son kills someone you should understand that he has crossed the line.
I am happy the boy got what he deserved. The riots were bad enough but killing someone is even worse. Hopefully he will learn from his time in jail.
